Finance head Debbie Cabrera named acting interim superintendent ...

Debbie Cabrera (Irving ISD)

Former superintendent Dana Bedden?s finance chief will fill his shoes until at least mid-July.?until the school board hires a replacement.

Debbie Cabrera, associate?superintendent?over business services, will become acting interim superintendent on Monday?a week to the day after Bedden resigned. She has a 16-year, much-praised reputation in the district, and is often credited for improving financial management under Bedden.

The board, with Lee Mosty absent, voted 6-0 to make Cabrera interim while the district begins looking for a search firm to find a permanent new leader.

But it?s unclear if Cabera will keep her new post for long. She?s basically an interim-interim superintendent. The board expects to interview candidates in mid-July to lead the district temporarily, until it picks a search firm to help find a permanent replacement for Bedden.

I?ll go out on a limb and predict Cabrera?s new post will prove to be the new board?s?least?contentious?move?yet.
