We are currently recruiting for a Product Manager to work within our new business and product management department. The main purpose of the role is to ensure that volume, revenue and acquisition targets in the department are met and implementing the strategy for the business unit.

As Product Manager your responsibilities will include:

Developing marketing and promotional activities to improve new business sales
Identifying gaps in the market where the Hastings brands can offer a solution and working with teams to ensure they are implemented
Ensuring all new products meet customer needs for their relevant segment
Ensuring all products are profitable for Hastings
Analysing various sources of MI (including aggregator portals, Consumer Intelligence, e-bench markers and other market reports),
Identifying trends, opportunities and poor performing segments to improve income
Analysing and improving business processes across Hastings Direct to improve New Business sales including ancillaries
Ensuring all activities are compliant and within FSA and TCF guidelines
Managing key strategic projects
Providing commentary and analysis for the weekly and monthly trading updates
Managing commercial third party relationships

As Product Manager your experience will ideally include:

Previous experience from within a similar role
Educated to degree level, ideally within statistics or marketing based subject
Must have strong commercial acumen, ideally gained from within a blue chip organisation
Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills
Strong corporate communication skills with the ability to present at board level
Demonstrable commercial achievements
A business improvement focus as well as the ability to thrive in a fast paced, ever changing environment

Google's Nexus 7 discovered to have Smart Cover-like magnetic sensor

You won't find this on its official specs list, but Google's Nexus 7 tablet apparently has a magnet-enabled sensor that'll automatically set the display to sleep -- it's hard not to think of the iPad's Smart Cover. YouTube user wwscoggin was able to discover and pin-point the functionality near the bottom left of the device by gliding a magnet along its bezel. As Android Police notes, this appears to be the only Android tablet with such a feature, yet there's no word on whether ASUS' decidedly Smart Case-esque cases will make use of it. We've been able to replicate the action on our end, but don't take our word for it, catch the video after the break.

High-speed internet at comparable prices in all NWT communities

Yellowknife? Northwestel and Falcon Communications GP Ltd today announced the arrival of affordable, reliable, higher speed broadband internet services to nine Northwest Territories communities.

?Northwestel is very pleased with the success of our partnership with Falcon Communications,? said Paul Flaherty, President and Chief Executive Officer of Northwestel. ?Effective July 9, 2012 all communities in the Northwest Territories now have access to high-speed internet, all at comparable prices. This is a significant step forward for communications in the North.?

Residents of Colville Lake, Deline, Gameti, Holman, Lutselk?e, Paulatuk, Trout Lake, Sachs Harbour, Ulukhaktok (Holman), and Wekweeti now have access to Northwestel?s DSL internet service which provides digital data transmission over local telephone network wires, allowing for faster transmission speeds and a higher quality internet experience.

Northwestel has designed and is implementing next generation satellite infrastructure to deliver internet services to customers in these nine communities. A further phase of this project will deliver mobile data services. Northwestel is a 50% funding partner in these new infrastructure advancements which will provide over $30 million in technology improvements to the Northwest Territories.

?Together with Northwestel we are proud to play a major role in the improvement and sustainability of broadband infrastructure and bandwidth capacity for the Northwest Territories,? said Darrell Beaulieu, President and CEO of Falcon Communications. ?Late last year we worked together to bring improved broadband services to a number of NWT communities. How many rolls, cookies or baby carrots would you have to eat to feel full. It's probably more than you?d want to admit. It may not even be possible with carrots. But what if you ate that volume of filet mignon?

Hunger and fullness are controlled by hormones that send messages between your gut and your head. And different foods send different messages. Some say eat more and others warn you to slow down. Now a study finds that protein is, indeed, key in generating signals of fullness. The work is in the journal Cell. [Celine Duraffourd et al, Mu-Opioid Receptors and Dietary Protein Stimulate a Gut-Brain Neural Circuitry Limiting Food Intake]

Mice that lack receptors to sense that they were eating protein kept chowing down without appearing to feel full. Whereas normal mice would stop eating much sooner while eating a high-protein meal.

The results of the study make it extra impressive that Joey Chestnut wolfed down 68 hot dogs at the Nathan's July 4th hot dog eating contest?with more time he likely would have felt full after a few. But for people eating sensibly, grilled chicken or fish supply satiating protein too.
